Choosing the right flowers for your wedding
There is a lot to think about once it is decided that there is going to be a wedding. It now means there is a lot of planning to be done; at least, if the wedding couple wants that perfect day. Among all the things which need to be attended to is the wedding flowers.
What Flowers are Going to Be Needed?
The first thought will probably be that of the bridal bouquet, but there will be several other needs for the wedding. As the bride to be, don’t fall for the marketing hype, do your research, as this can help to save time and money. The wedding flower needs may be comprised of:
- Flowers for the maid of honor
- Flowers for the bridesmaids
- Bouquet for the flower girl
- Boutonnieres for the groom, the best man, and the ushers
- Boutonniere for the father of the bride and father of the groom
- Corsages for the mother of the bride and mother of the groom
- Flowers for the church or where the vows are going to be exchanged
- Flowers for the reception hall
Not everyone will want flowers for each of these, but for those who are having a large wedding, then flowers will be needed for the majority of these.
Deciding on the Color Theme
A color theme for the wedding is going to be necessary, which means the flowers are going to have to be compatible with this. In most cases, the bride will want all the colors to be within the same color family to harmonise nicely with the wedding attire. Some of the standard colors which are typically used at weddings are:
- White
- Pink
- Red
- Lavender
- Yellow
The Cost Factor
For those who are going for the whole floral arrangement as listed above, it can get expensive. There are some ways to keep the costs down, such as:
- Having someone move the flowers from where the vows are being taken to the reception hall. This means separate flowers will no longer need to be bought for the reception area.
- Different flowers cost varying prices. By going with flowers in the lower price range, it can be a significant way to reduce the costs.
- Have more foliage added to the bouquets, as this will cut down on the pricier flowers.
Where to Start
Finding the starting point when choosing the flowers can be a challenge for some. The best starting point is with the bride’s bouquet, which is the most important of all, as this grabs the attention of everyone.
By choosing the brides flowers first, it makes it easier to select the rest of them. There are a couple of options. The bride can decide to go with the same color family right across the board and use different flowers which have this color range. This way, cheaper flowers can be used for some of the other flower needs. The flowers can be used to complement each other if the decision is not to stay with the same colors.
Set the Budget
The cost of the flowers can soon get out of hand if a set budget is not determined. Most often, the florists will ask what the budget is and the number of flowers needed. From here they will normally put together packages or at least narrow down the options, so it is easier for the bride to select them.
